Office: Ann Arbor, MI
Position: Tax, Trust and Estate Planning

Our Ann Arbor office has an opening for a part-time experienced Estate and Trust Settlement Paralegal. Paralegal degree preferred. Candidates should have a minimum of three years of experience as a paralegal with a strong background in tax and trust and estates. Candidates must be detail-oriented with excellent writing and organizational skills. Candidates with corporate legal experience preferred but not required.

In addition, desired skills and experience include:

  • Prepares federal estate tax returns, state death tax returns, federal gift tax returns and fiduciary and individual income tax returns;
  • Prepares probate pleadings to open decedents’ estates, and handle administrative tasks for settlement of estates and trusts;
  • Prepares accountings for estates and trusts;
  • Prepares stock certificates, deeds, and other property transfer documents to fund trusts;
  • Keeps records and task lists for all aspects of trust and estates activities for clients;
  • Performs internet research for tax forms, publications, and related matters;
  • Develops and maintains key contacts at various courts, trust officers and other third parties to facilitate delivery of quality service to clients;
  • Interacts extensively with clients; inspires confidence; and is capable of dealing with clients through the post-death settlement process;
  • Prepares accountings and other court documents for estates of minors and disabled persons;
  • Corporate entity formation and corporate record maintenance;
  • Researching state statutes and regulations regarding corporate practice;
  • Management of UCC filings;
  • Due diligence and other organizational corporate and transactional support.

Dykema’s Bloomfield Hills office is seeking an entry level/junior Commercial Real Estate Paralegal. Bachelor’s Degree and/or Paralegal degree preferred. Candidates must be detail-oriented with excellent writing and organizational skills.

The position will entail:

  • Transactional support, including analyzing title work, surveys, corporate documents and lien searches
  • Basic entity formation
  • Foreclosure assistance

Office: Washington, DC
Position: Litigation

Our Washington, DC office has an opening for a Litigation Paralegal, with at least five years of paralegal experience, preferably in a medium to large size firm environment. Paralegal degree preferred. The ideal applicant will have experience with general litigation including product liability, class action defense, and commercial litigation. This position requires interaction with clients, vendors, outside counsel, and lawyers and staff in other Dykema offices nationwide.

In addition, desired skills and experience include:

  • High level of comfort with technology, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, eFiling in federal and state courts, and Relativity;
  • Cite-checking, Bluebook proficiency (trial and appellate briefs);
  • Familiarity with medical records and preparing medical chronologies;
  • Experience assisting with interviewing witnesses, collecting and organizing information and documents;
  • Experience in trial preparation and assistance at trial;
  • Experience in handling large volume document reviews and document productions;
  • The ability to work independently, be creative, and take initiative;
  • Reliability, attentive to detail, and excellent organization skills;
  • The capability to work effectively and efficiently within a team driven environment and the ability to prioritize assignments and delegate when necessary.
