Our Scholarships
Dykema has established annual diversity scholarships for law students at the
University of Michigan and the University of Illinois. The money is to be
used toward tuition and fees in the second and third years of law school ($7500
per year). The University of Michigan award was launched in 2005 and our
first scholarship recipient joined us as a 2006 summer associate in the firm’s
Detroit office. The University of Illinois scholarship was initiated in
2006.
Each scholarship is designed not only to promote diversity in the legal
profession, but also to encourage students to remain in their respective
geographic markets upon graduation. As a Midwestern based firm, Dykema is
committed to keeping talented students in the area. The application process
includes a request for an essay of not more than two pages describing the
applicant’s ties to Michigan/Illinois, the student’s interest in practicing in
Michigan/Illinois and the reasons why the applicant believes he or she should
receive the scholarship. Other requested materials are a completed Scholarship
Application Form, resume, undergraduate transcript and any available law school
grades.
Interested University of Michigan Law School students should contact
Christine Gregory, the Director of Student Services, via the Financial Aid
office. Students at the University of Illinois should contact Virginia
Vermillion, Assistant Dean of Academic and Student Administration.
