On April 30, 2014, two Chicago-based Dykema members—Chuck LeMoine and Jill Vorobiev—will be featured presenters at the 63rd Illinois ASBO Conference and Exhibitions. The two will participate in a breakout session on Risk Management and will address the legal issues associated with hiring and termination of school district personnel.

LeMoine, with more than 20 years’ experience, is a trial lawyer who concentrates his practice on litigation. Over his career, he has represented hundreds of school districts and their professional staffs in a wide variety of liability claims ranging from student fights, school bus accidents and discrimination to student athletics, contracts and insurance.

Vorobiev, a member of the Firm’s Labor & Employment group, represents corporate clients in state and federal courts as well as administrative agencies. She regularly counsels and trains employers on employment laws, civil rights laws and compliance matters of all kinds. She has reviewed and drafted employment policies, employment agreements, noncompete and confidentiality agreements, and severance agreements.

The presentations by LeMoine and Vorobiev will provide attendees:

  • practical tips to help hire the right individuals and safely weed out those who do not meet expectations
  • insight into legal issues associated with hiring and termination
  • best practices to manage risk and minimize turnover
  • updates on several hotly-litigated issues involving the use of background checks, disciplining employees for social media posts and employee dress policies

The Illinois Association of School Business Officials (IASBO), founded in 1952, is the state’s largest organization devoted to the school business management profession. Members include school business managers, superintendents, educational support professionals and school facilities personnel.
