Mike Cooney, Detroit-based member and director of the Firm’s Litigation Department, was interviewed by  the Detroit Legal News for an article—“Teamwork: Dykema Forms National Trial Team for Significant Cases”—that appeared in the publication on April 2, 2014.

In the article, Cooney explains why Dykema created its new National Trial Team. This team is led by Dan Stephenson—Los Angeles-based member—and initially consists of 28 attorneys from firm offices in Michigan, California, Illinois, Minnesota, Texas and Washington, D.C. Members are highly experienced trial lawyers, having taken more than 650 cases to verdict (94 in the past five years).

Cooney states, “Trying significant cases requires a certain skill set and a familiarity with the process. Not just getting in front of a jury and trying the case, but all the preparations to try the case.” He cites the National Trial Team’s ability to marshal resources quickly and tackle complex cases—sometimes in the most challenging jurisdictions—anywhere in the country.

He adds, “Preparing witnesses, getting the IT support you’re going to need… we’ve done so much of it that I could call our folks today… have a war room set up.. and be ready to go. That’s something not a lot of firms can do.”
