Rosa Tumialán, Chicago-based member in the Litigation Department, is profiled in the May 2014 issue of Metropolitan Corporate Counsel,  a monthly publication distributed to more than 30,000 top-tier executives (chief legal officers, general counsel) in the law departments of major U.S. companies.

In the article, Tumialán addresses a number of factors which have influenced her career.  Chief among these was a two-and-a-half year stint clerking in the Chancery Division of the Circuit Court of Cook County (for the Honorable Thomas P. Durkin) and a five-year posting at the Illinois Appellate Court (for the Honorable Robert Cahill). Tumialán acknowledges that each of these two opportunities provided her unique perspectives that have informed and enhanced her skills as a litigator.

Tumialán also discusses her work in the defense of Telephone Consumer Protection Act  (TCPA) noting that while the Act was created to protect consumers, many of the class actions launched by plaintiff attorneys  look primarily to “manipulate the statute to reap untold millions of dollars” rather than to provide meaningful relief to consumers.  By going after the insurance coverage, Tumialán observes, the real purpose of the statute is “contravened.”
