Whistleblower Claims”—published in the July  3, 2013 edition of Employment Law360 and featured in its Expert Analysis section. Employment Law360 publishes thought-provoking articles and is one of the nation’s leading resources for news and information about litigation, labor, and employment matters.

In the article, Mayfield analyzes the Michigan Supreme Court’s recent decision of Whitman v. City of Burton, which held that a whistleblower need not have the primary motivation of desiring to inform the public on matters of public concern. Whitman, as Mayfield points out, did not leave employers defenseless against whistleblower mentality. Mayfield’s Employment Law360 article also identifies the many practical questions that can be used to generate defenses to whistleblower claims.
