Jason E. Grinnell, Los Angeles-based senior counsel in Dykema’s Real Estate Practice Group recently spoke at the 45th Annual International Council of Shopping Centers (ICSC) U.S. Shopping Center Law Conference held in Phoenix, Ariz., from October 28-31, 2015. San Antonio-based Real Estate attorneys Peter R. Broderick and Maureen Strauss Gonima also attended the conference.

Grinnell co-presented during a presentation entitled, “Digging into Ground Leasing,” an advanced seminar on the complexities of ground leases and issues relating to the use of ground leases in shopping center development. The presentation discussed how ground lease provisions differ from typical space lease provisions, touched on more esoteric issues—such as leasehold mortgages, used of the ground lease structure in a multi-tenant development, and subtenant recognition agreements—and also highlighted considerations that should be given to titles and environmental issues.

The ICSC U.S. Shopping Center Law Conference is one of the nation’s most prestigious and longest-running industry events, with more than 1,200 in-house and outside counsel attending. Grinnell, Broderick and Gonima’s collective participation displayed Dykema’s national real estate capabilities.
