Jason Grinnell, Los Angeles-based senior counsel in Dykema’s Real Estate practice group, was quoted in the Law360 article, “5 Ways Developers Are Responding To Millennials.”

The article points out that developers are making key building decisions based on the wants and needs of millennials–individuals born in the 1980s and 1990s, who generally seek a particular urban lifestyle with an emphasis on energy-efficient buildings and related amenities. Grinnell points out that addressing transportation concerns is a key issue for developers seeking to attract millennials for residential projects. Millennials, who tend to live in the vicinity of their place of work and are not interested in long commutes has residential developers adding bike storage options to their properties.

Grinnell also states that developers are putting in the infrastructure to support electric cars based on the assumption that millennials value energy efficiency, and therefore will gravitate toward driving electric vehicles as they become more prevalent.
