Jaime Ramón Comments on President Transferring Functions Between EEOC and Labor Department in BloombergBNA Report

May 24, 2017

Jaime Ramón, Dallas-based member of Dykema’s Labor & Employment practice group and a former director of the Office of Federal Contract Compliance Programs (OFCCP), was quoted in the BloombergBNA Daily Labor Report article, “Trump’s Proposed EEOC-OFCCP Merger May Need Congressional Action.”

The article focuses on how President Donald Trump plans to merge the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission and a Labor Department subagency in order to monitor Federal Contractors’ affirmative action and nondiscrimination compliance. In his comments, Ramón notes there is precedent for transferring functions between the EEOC and Labor Department. For example, under a governmental reorganization plan, President Jimmy Carter was able to transfer the authority to enforce the ANDEA and Equal Pay Act to the EEOC in 1978.
