Two Dykema attorneys—Carl Rashid, Jr., Detroit-based member of the Firm’s Real Estate Practice Group and leader of Dykema’s Property Tax Appeals practice; and Steven Grob, Detroit-based member whose practice focuses on federal and state tax law—will be among the speakers at the 2013 Michigan Tax Conference. This year’s conference, the 7th annual installment, will be held in Novi, Michigan on November 5 and 6, 2013.

On Tuesday, November 5, Rashid will participate in a panel discussion on “Property Tax Updates”. With the possibility of Michigan’s Personal Property Tax being phased out in 2014, this discussion is particularly timely. Panelists will provide updates on such topics as judgment levies with school districts, incentive legislation and changes in the Michigan Tax Tribunal.

On Wednesday, November 6, Grob and another panelist will address “State Tax Considerations in Merger and Acquisition Transactions.” This session will provide insight into such important topics as state tax due diligence considerations, planning regarding apportionment, utilization of loss carryovers and approaches to minimize or avoid transfer taxes.

The two-day event is presented by the Michigan Association of Certified Public Accountants (MACPA) in partnership with the State Bar of Michigan Taxation Section and the State of Michigan Department of Treasury. The event is CLE-accredited, with up to 16.5 hours—including Ethics—likely available (final approval pending).
