Deborah D. Williamson, San Antonio-based member in Dykema’s Bankruptcy Practice Group and an American Bankruptcy Institute (ABI) commissioner, was quoted in the Reuters article, “Zombies appear in U.S. oilfields as crude plumbs new lows.”

The article discusses how a 17-month crude rout is affecting some U.S. shale oil companies as oil prices drop below levels that allow them to profitably drill new wells. This decline has created oil and gas "zombies," a term used to describe companies that have just enough money to pay interest on debt, but not enough to drill enough new wells to replace older. Williamson wonders how long companies can survive without drilling a new well.
