CHICAGO—Dykema, a leading national law firm, today announced the addition of Ross Altman as leader of its Construction Law practice and member of the firm’s Real Estate practice in its Chicago office. Prior to joining Dykema, Altman was a partner with DLA Piper and co-chair of its Construction Law group.

Altman focuses his practice on matters pertaining to design and engineering, procurement and construction. He represents owners, contractors, design professionals, lenders and others in matters ranging from drafting and negotiation of contracts to resolution of disputes and claims. He also counsels clients in the transaction structure, financing and administration of construction projects and has worked on projects located throughout North America, South America, Europe and Asia.

“Spearheading projects around the globe, Ross is a world-class construction lawyer who will be a tremendous asset to our clients,” said Kyle Hauberg, Director of Dykema’s Real Estate and Environmental Department.  “Ross is nationally recognized as a leading authority on significant construction and infrastructure projects, and we’re pleased to have him as part of our real estate leadership team.”

“Ross brings a unique perspective to Dykema, having handled the full spectrum of issues that clients involved in large-scale construction projects can encounter,” said Derek Cottier, Managing Member of Dykema’s Chicago office. “He also brings notable general counsel experience to the Chicago office, which is an important dimension for our client base here.”

Altman has significant experience serving as general counsel for companies in turnaround situations, having acted as general counsel for two global companies attempting to reorganize under Chapter 11 of the U.S. Bankruptcy Code, as well as resolve international insolvency matters.

Chambers USA: America's Leading Lawyers for Business has consistently recognized Altman for his construction law work. In 2011, Chambers noted, "Construction specialist Ross Altman is an experienced and respected attorney with a fantastic reputation for handling large international transactions."

Altman earned a J.D. from George Washington University. His undergraduate degree is from the University of Michigan’s College of Architecture and Urban Planning.

With one of the largest group of practitioners in the Midwest and added depth from lawyers in its coast-to-coast network of offices, Dykema’s Real Estate practice is consistently recognized as one of the nation’s leading practices. It regularly garners high rankings from Chambers USA, and in 2011 the firm was named the top Midwest real estate law firm by Midwest Real Estate News—a position it has held for two out of the past three years.
