Texans who have had money or property taken by law enforcement now have a new tool to help them get their belongings back. Texas Appleseed, a public interest justice center, in partnership with Dykema, today launches a new online toolkit, Defending Against a Civil Asset Forfeiture Case. The toolkit features answers to top leading questions about asset forfeiture; animated videos in English and subtitled in Spanish; sample pleadings and forms that Texans can customize; and a checklist for appearing in court, among other information.

The U.S. Supreme Court today ruled in favor of Dykema pro bono client Ehlena Fry in her lawsuit against the Napoleon, Michigan Community Schools. In ruling that Fry, a 13-year-old with cerebral palsy, may sue for violations of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) without first exhausting administrative proceedings, the Court removes significant and time-consuming legal hurdles for disabled children who are victims of discrimination in their education systems.
