Office:  Chicago, IL 
Position:  Tax and Estate Planning

Our Chicago office has an opportunity for a full-time Tax & Estate Planning Paralegal. Paralegal and/or baccalaureate degree preferred. Candidates must be organized, detail oriented, able to work independently and have at least five years of paralegal experience with a strong background in tax and probate trust administration. Expected areas of experience include:

  • Tax Return Preparation 
    • Federal estate tax returns and state level estate tax returns
    • Federal gift tax returns
    • Fiduciary income tax returns
    • Individual income tax returns
  • Probate Administration
    • Probate pleadings to open and close decedent’s estates
    • Probate pleadings to open and close guardianship estates
  • Administration and Settlement of Estates and Trusts 
    • Probate estates
    • Trusts
    • Guardianship estates
  • Accountings and Inventories 
    • Preparation of accountings and inventories for probate estates, trusts and guardianship estates
  • Trust Funding  
    • Preparing stock certificates, deeds, and other property transfer documents to fund revocable and irrevocable trusts
  • Research 
    • Research tax forms, publications, and related matters as requested
  • Docketing
    • Maintain a docket system for the department
  • Communication 
    • Strong written and oral communication skills. The candidate will be expected to communicate internally with the attorneys and other professionals within the office and outside the office with clients, court personnel, vendors and other third parties 
  • Computer Skills & Other Professional Skills
    • Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Visio. Candidate should be a Notary Public and/or willing to become a Notary Public
