John C. Dickey, Dallas-based member in Dykema’s Corporate Finance Practice Group, and Edwin J. Tomko, Dallas-based attorney in the Firm’s Business Litigation Practice Group, will serve as co-presenters at The Symposium and International Business Law Academy, a three-day event that will take place in Plano, Texas at The Center for American and International Law.

On Tuesday, June 17, 2014, Dickey and Tomko, joined by Margie Reinhardt, a director in Grant Thornton LLP’s Forensic, Investigative and Dispute Services practice, will deliver a 90-minute presentation—“SEC Financial Reporting and Audit Task Force: What You Need to Know.” The presentation will examine:

  • how this Task Force came to be created in July 2013, and its mission
  • how the Task Force operates: what tools and techniques it uses to identify financial fraud
  • what the Task Force looks for in its examination of financial statements, issuer reporting and disclosures
  • what company executives should know—and do—to remain in compliance with existing regulations and avoid fraudulent practices

Dickey’s practice focuses on securities, corporate finance, antitrust and commercial law. He is particularly experienced in securities regulation, both at the state and federal levels, and in assisting clients with complex corporate governance issues, internal investigations and company compliance programs.

Tomko concentrates his practice on federal and state white-collar crime cases that involve government contracts, financial institutions, securities, environmental and health care issues. He has handled federal civil cases such as qui tam and other False Claims Act actions, has experience in contract suits involving fraud or breach of contract allegations and before joining Dykema held various positions with the Department of Justice and the Securities and Exchange Commission.

The three-day event, in which Dickey and Tomko will present, is accredited, with 20.25 MCLE Credit available. The event is expected to draw 125 attendees, representing in-house counsel, regulatory officers, CEOs and CFOs from companies based in the U.S. and overseas.
