The Winter 2014 issue of Leading Lawyers magazine features Robert C. Linton, Chicago-based leader of the Firm’s Real Estate Practice Group, as its cover profile. Published quarterly, Leading Lawyers magazine is a division of the Law Bulletin Publishing Company, which has served the legal and business communities of the Chicago area for over 150 years.

Linton and his practice—which specializes in negotiating large national retail leases for major shopping center owners and developers—are the subjects of the Leading Lawyers cover story, “Pushing Hard to Help Clients Get Their Deals Done.” In the article, Linton notes that “recognizing that every deal—every lease—is different and presents its own challenge” is what keeps him fresh.

As some of his projects are redevelopments of older—even abandoned or unused—properties, Linton acknowledges at times he must be “part developer and part detective.” In matters in which an environmental issue emerges, he is quick to pick up the phone and contact Mark Jacobs, a Detroit-based Dykema member whose practice concentrates on environmental permitting, compliance and regulation. “He’s my ‘go-to’ guy,” Linton explains, “who can take a 70-page environmental report and clearly explain the risks to the client.”

Linton also notes that, in matters that involve zoning issues or securing public incentives to redevelop a parcel of property, he draws upon the talents of Dykema colleague, Andrew Scott, a Chicago-based member of the Real Estate group whose practice concentrates on zoning, land use, economic development incentives and governmental entitlements.
