Alternative Career Paths Rising: Firms Divided on Trend

Dykema Gossett was featured in the June 27, 2011 Crain’s Detroit Business article addressing alternative career paths in law firms. In particular, the article discusses the role of staff attorneys in a law firm setting, and the reasons why many firms choose to incorporate alternative career paths into the an age-old associate-partner model. Dykema’s member in charge of professional development, Alan Green, and the firm’s chairman and CEO, Rex Schlaybaugh offered insight as to the business decision to evolve Dykema’s staffing model. Said Greene and Schlaybaugh, “Not everyone becomes the president of a company. But lots of people in middle management do challenging work, have rewarding careers and are assets to their companies.”
