Los Angeles-based attorneys Jeffrey G. Huron, a member of Dykema’s Business Litigation Group, and Luke Sosnicki, a litigator in the firm’s Financial Services Group, recently presented to the Financial Institutions Committee of the Business Law Section of the California State Bar. The presentation covered the Consumer Financial Protection Board’s (CFPB) recent proposal to make customer complaint narratives public.

The presentation, titled “Public Disclosure of Consumer Complaint Narratives: The CFPB’s Latest Consumer-Protection Initiative,” discussed:

  • the arguments for and against the new proposal, 
  • the potential implications of a CFPB archive of narrative complaints, 
  • privacy concerns relating to banks’ responses to narrative complaints, 
  • and potential costs imposed on financial institutions.
