John Dickey Serves as Instructor at 50th Annual Academy of American and International Law

John C. Dickey, a corporate finance attorney and member in Dykema’s Dallas Office, served as guest instructor at the 50^th annual session of The Academy of American and International Law in Plano, Texas. The Academy is an intensive six-week course of study—focused on American and international legal and business institutions, with an emphasis on American legal processes—designed for lawyers from outside the United States. This year, 75 attendees from 27 different countries participated in the program.

During the week of June 10, 2013, Dickey delivered 10 hours of lectures on international business transactions and foreign direct investments, illustrating various points of law using examples drawn from public case histories and personal experience. Dickey describes the lecture series as “exhilarating, exhausting but immensely fun.” He also insisted upon a high degree of interaction: “Not every student was quick to volunteer a point-of-view, so I made certain that everyone participated.”

The Academy is sponsored every year by the Southwestern Institute for International and Comparative Law, an institute of The Center for American and International Law.

Richard G. Goetz, Detroit-based senior counsel and leader of Dykema’s International Practice, who for several years served as member of The Center for American and International Law’s Advisory Board, notes, “We’re delighted that John had opportunity to instruct this year’s Academy students.
