Jill S. Vorobiev, Chicago-based member in Dykema’s Labor and Employment practice, authored the article, “To pay or not to pay? A look at compensation for internships,” which appears in the Chicago Daily Law Bulletin.

In the article, Vorobiev points out that courts and the Department of Labor (DOL) have been weighing in on whether or not, and to what extent internship programs can be unpaid with a concern in mind that an employer may not be providing an intern with a meaningful benefit in education or experience. She then goes on to discuss two cases involving the status of unpaid interns that employers have been watching closely.
