Dykema, a leading national law firm, announces that its Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, Rex E. Schlaybaugh, Jr., has been elected to serve on the Board of Directors of the Detroit Economic Club.

"The Detroit Economic Club is dedicated to the future of our community, and I’m excited to have a part in such a vital organization," said Schlaybaugh.

The Detroit Economic Club (DEC) was formed in 1934 as a non-partisan, nonprofit organization committed to the discussion and debate of important business, government and social issues. The DEC continues to provide a platform for distinguished international dignitaries and business leaders, who represent the changing global environment. It is known internationally as an important venue for prominent business and government leaders – a forum they can use to explore issues that will help shape the dynamic 21st century economic environment.

"I respect Rex’s dedication to the revitalization of the City of Detroit and I look forward to working with him throughout his tenure on the DEC Board," said Beth Chappell, President and CEO of the Detroit Economic Club.

In his more than 25 years with the firm at its Detroit office, Schlaybaugh has built a significant corporate law and corporate finance practice that includes a concentration in mergers and acquisitions; buyouts and recapitalizations; capital markets and lending; and corporate governance for public and private companies. During his tenure as Chairman and CEO, he has taken the firm to a national platform with the establishment of offices in Dallas and Los Angeles.

He was recently re-elected to serve a three-year term as an officer on the Executive Committee of the Metropolitan Affairs Coalition, a regional public-private partnership dedicated to enhancing the quality of life and economic vitality of Southeast Michigan. Schlaybaugh serves on the boards of several organizations and businesses including the Detroit Economic Growth Corporation, a private nonprofit organization that is dedicated to creating new investment and jobs in the City of Detroit. In addition, he is a past Chairman and Member of the Executive Committee of the Michigan Chamber of Commerce and a past Chairman and Member of the Board of Trustees of Oakland University.
