Austin attorney Phillip Slinkard has been elected Chairman of the Board of Rachel’s Challenge, a national nonprofit organization based in Littleton, CO. Slinkard will take over the Chairmanship from another Austin business leader, Michael Cress, at the Board’s fall meeting.

Phil Slinkard is a shareholder in the Cox Smith firm where he specializes in corporate and business law, mergers and acquisitions. He has served on the Rachel’s Challenge Board for two years. A graduate of the University of Texas Law School, Slinkard brings his expertise and passion for serving children and youth to the growing organization.

Darrell Scott, Founder of Rachel’s Challenge, stated, “Phil brings a new dimension of business experience to our organization. I look forward to working with him as we continue to address the issues of making school campuses across the country better places for students and educators to learn.

Rachel Scott was the first student killed at Columbine High School in 1999. Rachel’s Challenge was started in 2001 by Darrell and Sandy Scott to honor Rachel’s memory and to further Rachel’s desire to create a kinder, more compassionate culture at her school. The organization addresses solutions to bullying behavior and violence in schools through a continual process of improvement that includes assessments, student assemblies and training, staff professional development and resource development. Rachel’s Challenge presents over 2,500 programs each year and has partnered with local TV station KVUE to bring the program into a number of central Texas schools.
