Cox Smith Names New Shareholders

Cox Smith Matthews Incorporated (“Cox Smith”) today announced Mark Barrera and Paul Santoyo have been named shareholders of the firm.

Mark Barrera is a member of Cox Smith’s robust Litigation department, where his practice focuses on complex business litigation, fiduciary liability, fraud, and contract disputes. Barrera represents clients in the financial services, technology, and energy industries in state and federal courts around the country.

Prior to joining the firm, Barrera served as a law clerk to United States District Judge Royal Furgeson and as a briefing attorney to Chief Justice Wallace Jefferson of the Texas Supreme Court.  Fluent in Spanish and recognized in 2012 and 2011 as one of San Antonio's Rising Stars by Scene in SA magazine, Barrera is a member of the State Bar of Texas, American Bar Association, San Antonio Bar Association, and William S. Sessions Chapter American Inns of Court.  

Paul Santoyo is a member of the firm’s Energy & Natural Resources department, which received a 2011-2012 Tier 1 “Best Law Firms” ranking in San Antonio from U.S. News & World Report-Best Lawyers in Energy Law, Oil & Gas Law, and Natural Resources Law. Santoyo is also part of the firm’s Eagle Ford Shale team, which helps clients navigate the complex legal and business issues related to the development and exploration underway in south Texas as a result of the Eagle Ford Shale. Board Certified by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization in Oil, Gas and Mineral Law and recognized by Scene in SA magazine as one of the city’s best lawyers in 2011, Santoyo assists clients in matters related to energy, environmental and natural resources law. His practice is focused on representing clients in oil and gas related matters including title examination, drafting instruments affecting real property interests, lease negotiation and land management issues. Additionally, Santoyo assists clients with farm and ranch sales. He is a member of the San Antonio Association of Professional Landmen, State Bar of Texas, and San Antonio Bar Association.
