Cox Smith Matthews Incorporated ("Cox Smith") today announced attorney Susan W. Ramos has joined the firm's Immigration and International Trade Law practice in its El Paso office.

Susan brings a wealth of experience to the firm, where her practice will focus primarily on family based immigration and removal matters. She is fluent in Spanish and admitted to the bars of Texas, New Mexico, and North Carolina. Prior to joining Cox Smith, Susan worked in private practice in North Carolina where she acquired over six years of experience in immigration law with an extensive family and criminal based caseload. She has served as a county assistant public defender as well as a special assistant attorney general for the New Mexico Human Services Department. A graduate of St. Mary's University School of Law, Susan received her Bachelor of Arts degree from Emory University and is a member of the American Immigration Lawyers Association.

"The growth of Cox Smith's Immigration and International Trade Law department reflects the statewide increased focus on the failure of Congress to act on immigration reform and its resulting impact on Texas businesses," said Kathleen Campbell Walker, Cox Smith shareholder and head of the firm's immigration practice area. "There are more than 40 bills introduced in the current Texas legislative session related to immigration issues and many of them have the potential to cause major changes in business operations for Texas businesses. We are extremely pleased to have Susan on our team to help our clients navigate the complex and changing issues related to immigration law and policy."

Cox Smith's El Paso office is top ranked by Best Lawyers in Immigration Law and in International Trade and Finance Law. Cox Smith was also recognized in the inaugural U.S. News-Best Lawyers ranking of the nation's best law firms, being ranked Tier One (strongest) in El Paso in Immigration Law and Personal Injury Litigation: Defense.
