Dykema, a leading national law firm, announced today that Minnesota Governor Mark Dayton appointed Shannon Heim, Minneapolis-based senior counsel and head of Dykema’s Telecommunications Regulatory practice, to the Governor’s Task Force on Broadband. Heim will serve as a member of the task force during Governor Dayton’s second term.

The Governor’s Task Force on Broadband develops policies to promote the expansion of broadband access throughout Minnesota. It is responsible for developing an action plan to identify and correct disparities in access and adoption of broadband in all Minnesota communities, with a goal of ensuring that homes, schools, hospitals, and businesses have access to the technology and information resources they need.

Heim focuses her practice in Government Policy and Regulated Industries with a particular emphasis on telecommunications regulatory matters. She has experience representing telecommunications and energy companies both in the state and federal regulatory commissions and courts. She also handles the negotiation of commercial contracts often involving complicated and contentious issues of business and law for established companies, cooperatives and trade associations.

Heim, who is also a member of the Federal Communications Bar Association, earned a J.D., cum laude, from Catholic University of America, Columbus School of Law, an M.A. in Journalism and Mass Communications, as well as a B.A., from the University of Iowa.
