Jarrod T. Smith is the leader of Dykema’s Public Finance Practice group, practicing in the Lansing office. Prior to joining Dykema, Jarrod was an Assistant Attorney General with the Michigan Attorney General's Office for over 12 years.

During his time as an Assistant Attorney General, he acted as Issuer's Counsel to the State of Michigan and its various authorities for numerous transactions. Specifically, Jarrod represented the State of Michigan, the Department of Treasury, the Department of Transportation, the State Building Authority, the Michigan Finance Authority, the Michigan Strategic Fund, and the Michigan State Housing Development Authority.

Notably, during that time Jarrod helped structure some of the most complex public finance transactions in Michigan, including the $3.0 billion Unemployment Obligation Assessment Revenue Bonds transaction, which was recognized as the national "Deal of the Year" by The Bond Buyer. Mr. Smith served as counsel to the Michigan Strategic Fund for the bonds initially issued to finance construction of Little Caesar’s Arena, the new arena for the Detroit Red Wings and the Detroit Pistons. He also played a key role in the Michigan Finance Authority's refunding bond transaction to restructure and fix out the debt of the Detroit Public Schools and assisted in the State's restructuring of its School Bond Qualification and Loan Fund program through the creation of a School Loan Revolving Fund program administered by the Michigan Finance Authority.  Since joining Dykema, Jarrod continues to represent these issuers as well as underwriters and other financial institutions for a variety of public finance transactions.
