Sean Huang, Ph.D., is an associate attorney in Dykema's San Antonio, Texas office. He concentrates his intellectual property practice on patent prosecution, litigation support, and licensing. He has represented clients on patent prosecution relating to electronics, battery technologies, mixed-signal circuits, cloud computing, and computer software. He also supports clients’ (PO & petitioner) litigation of patents about mobile software and communications by providing patents/prior art analysis and claim construction. In addition, he counsels clients on due diligence and asset acquisition relating to wireless and mobile communications technologies.

Prior to law school, he worked with ExxonMobil and GE Global Research as an electrical engineer and with Oak Ridge National Laboratory as a research associate. At ExxonMobil, he was an electrical lead of FEED and Detailed Engineering for the design, technical qualification, and field installation of electric facilities in offshore and Arctic projects, and led R&D of subsea power T&D. At GE, he designed multilevel power converters to drive megawatt gas compressors, high-frequency converters in aircraft, and EMS systems using batteries and ultracapacitors for hybrid vehicles. At ORNL, he designed an embedded controller and DAQ to operate an EV propulsion/HVAC converter. He is also experienced with machinery diagnosis using pattern recognition and machine-learning algorithms.

Sean combines his cross-disciplinary legal and technical experiences to provide his clients technically sound and business-oriented legal services. Sean holds four U.S. patents and has published 19 IEEE transactions and conference papers. He is an IEEE senior member.
