Cox Smith Employment and Employer Rights Workshop

Immigration and the Workplace: Avoiding the Slings and Arrows of Outrageous Fortune

As immigration reform measures continue to stagnate and unemployment remains at unacceptable levels, the Administration continues to focus on employer worksite compliance measures to ensure that employers verify the work authorization and identity of employees. New tools are now available to employers, but no tool eliminates exposure. So, what is an employer to do in order to reduce its exposure when US Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS), immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), and the Office of Special Counsel (OSC) of the Department of Justice are all bearing down in addition to some state agencies as well?

Our goal is to provide a roadmap that will help guide employers facing immigration potholes. During the workshop we will discuss:

  1. Ten Things All Employers Should do to Reduce Penalty Exposure
  2. Notices of Inspection and No Match Type Letters – What To Do
  3. I-9 Audit Correction Traps
  4. Typical Factors Leading To Criminal Exposure In I-9 Compliance
  5. How Independent Contractors Can Become Employees and Constructive Knowledge
  6. I-9 Compliance Risks When Using a Professional Employer Organization
  7. ICE’s Guidance on How To Assess Penalties and New IMAGE Penalty Benefits
  8. Electronic I-9 Challenges
  9. How to Prepare For When FDNS Comes Calling – The Perils of Change
  10. How Corporate Actions Can Really Mess Up Your Immigration Compliance World
