Goodbye Safe Harbor, Hello Privacy Shield

The New Reality of EU-U.S. Cross-Border Data Transfers and Immediate Steps You Can Take to Avoid Non-Compliance

Speaking Engagements

7.27.16

In October 2015, the European Court of Justice invalidated the Safe Harbor putting nearly every transfer of personal data from the EU to the U.S. in legal limbo. Now, after months of negotiations, the Privacy Shield has been passed by the European Commission and will soon be the law. But what is Privacy Shield and why might it impact nearly every U.S. company with either European Economic Area customers or employees?

On this teleconference, Dykema Privacy and Data Protection lawyers Steve Tupper (CIPP/US, CIPP/E) and Aaron Charfoos (CIPP/US) will provide answers to the following questions:

  • What is Privacy Shield?
  • How do European regulations differ from those in the U.S. and what do companies need to do to comply?
  • How  can companies get certified under Privacy Shield?
  • What benefits are there to file before the grace period ends on September 10, 2016?

Please join us for a one hour teleconference next Wednesday, July 27th at noon ET.
