"Noncompete Agreements Under Michigan Law"

Dennis M. Haffey, Bloomfield Hills-based member of Dykema’s Litigation Department, and James F. Hermon, Detroit-based member in Dykema’s Labor & Employment Practice Group, have written the article “Noncompete Agreements Under Michigan Law” for the Michigan Bar Journal.

In their article, Hermon and Haffey reveal that commercial agreements are governed by antitrust and contract law, whereas employer/employee covenants attempt to protect workers from unreasonable constraints in their pursuit of other job opportunities. The authors advise drawing up tailor-made noncompete employment contracts which must be signed by both parties rather than a blanket policy buried in the employee manual.
