Bill Cramer was interviewed for Smart Business Dallas' April 2012 article, "Risks of the Cloud: How to Address Potential Pitfalls Before Moving Ahead with Cloud Computing." While there are benefits to cloud computing, the feature addresses the dangers of giving up computing needs to third party service providers. Said Cramer, "[w]hen you give up your computing needs to a third party, you give up control and expose yourself to potential liability." Cramer addresses many of the specific concerns such as security issues, responding to network failures, third party liability and contractual remedies. For example, how is data protected from inside and outside intruders—with background checks, passwords, encryption, and/or other methods? And, where is online information stored? With regard to remedies, Cramer cautions "[t]he contract is empty unless it ultimately provides a remedy." Companies should put a dollar value on "what it means to your business to be offline for a minute, an hour, or a day." The article suggests that companies look to a law firm with the appropriate experience to ensure these and other dangers are addressed.
