Steve Gistenson devotes his practice to thoroughly understanding every client’s business. He is a litigator first, but he also relishes the opportunity to become a trusted advisor in every way. Steve’s goal is to help clients avoid or eliminate disputes and be an asset to them, their operations, and their bottom lines.

Steve recognizes that litigation is a drain on financial and personnel resources for the public corporations, closely-held companies, start-ups, and individual clients he represents. Regardless of the matter—contracts, real estate, business torts, labor and employment, debtor-creditor issues, bankruptcy, business divorces, child custody, will contests and probate challenges, data security, intellectual property, leasing, antitrust, or licensing, to name a few—his approach is always to promptly and efficiently resolve disputes in a manner that best serves his clients.

All litigation is personal to Steve. He brings his passion and competitiveness to each case.

Over time, he has developed collaborative, working relationships with his clients’ in-house counsel, C-suite, key staff, and business partners. He becomes an integral part of their risk management processes, working with them to assess and mitigate threats before they happen, implement protections, and develop effective business strategies. Equally important to Steve are the professional connections and personal friendships he has enjoyed with his clients.

A leader within the firm, Steve has been a vital contributor to Dykema’s recruitment and retention efforts. He also plays a critical role in the firm’s diversity initiatives and co-chairs the diversity and inclusion board’s retention subcommittee.

I want to work alongside every client to address and resolve issues that arise in its business, whether the problem involves litigation or otherwise.
