Dykema Advised Dynacq Healthcare, Inc. on Sale of Hospital and Transfer of Physician-Owned Hospital License

Dykema congratulates its client, Dynacq Healthcare, Inc., on the sale of a hospital and transfer of a physician-owned hospital license. 

Dynacq, a Houston-based 33-year-old physician-owned hospital operator that specializes in orthopedic, bariatric, neuro-spine, and general surgeries, filed for chapter 11 bankruptcy protection on December 8, 2025, in the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Southern District of Texas. Dynacq holds one of approximately 250 physician-owned hospital (POH) licenses remaining in the United States, a license that cannot be replicated under current federal law. The license permits physician practices and specialty groups to refer surgeries internally.

Dykema served as counsel on the sale of its assets pursuant to Section 363 of the U.S. Bankruptcy Code. Dykema’s William Hotze led the transaction and was aided by Dominique Douglas and Cameron O’Connor.
