Dykema is proud to announce that John Fraser, Michigan Team Leader of Dykema’s Cannabis group, was named a 2023 "Rising Star" by Law360 in the Cannabis Rising Star category. Fraser will be profiled in a special article by Law360 later this month.
According to Law360, its "Rising Stars" list recognizes the legal profession's top talent under the age of 40. This year's list includes 183 attorneys that span 38 practice areas. Editors reviewed more than 1,300 submissions. The winners are selected based on their professional accomplishments in their respective areas of practice.
In his practice, Fraser focuses on business, regulatory compliance, general litigation, and appellate law. He primarily counsels cannabis entrepreneurs and investors, municipal governments, and other attorneys on matters of cannabis law. He also has experience with litigation cases in trial courts throughout the State of Michigan and has argued cases before the Michigan Court of Appeals and the Michigan Supreme Court. Fraser has also been retained to serve as an expert witness and consultant in cases involving cannabis businesses to assist the parties and the court in breaking down and navigating complex cannabis-related legal issues.
Fraser is the immediate past Chairperson of the State Bar of Michigan’s Cannabis Law Section. He also is an adjunct professor of law at Western Michigan University Cooley Law School where he teaches Marijuana and the Law.
Fraser earned a J.D., summa cum laude, from Michigan State University College of Law, and a B.S., cum laude, from Central Michigan University.
