Dykema, a leading national law firm, is proud to announce that Bloomberg Law selected Michael Carey for its inaugural list of Unrivaled litigators. This new annual award celebrates litigators “who lead the legal industry in high-stakes trials and settlements on impactful matters for clients.” Carey is one of only 32 trial lawyers to have made the list for securing big wins in “bet the farm” matters.
Carey was also featured in the Bloomberg Law profile, “Unrivaled 2025: Michael Carey of Dykema.” The profile features a Q&A with Carey touching on the matter for which he is being honored, leading the Dykema team that earned a victory for Tesla in California in Molander v. Tesla, the first wrongful death suit to go to trial over Tesla’s Autopilot system.
According to Bloomberg Law, this prestigious recognition highlights attorneys who have demonstrated exceptional skill in delivering winning strategies and leading teams to success in jury trials, bench trials, and major settlements across sectors such as energy, securities, tax, product liability, mass torts, and other commercial disputes.
Selected through a rigorous review by Bloomberg Law’s editors and litigation analysts, Carey was chosen for his remarkable record, which includes at least two significant trial or settlement victories within the past two years, as well as a demonstrated history of litigation excellence. This distinction underscores his impactful contributions to the field and his ability to navigate high-stakes cases with unparalleled expertise.
“Bloomberg Law is proud to honor top litigators with our inaugural issue of Unrivaled,” said Lisa Helem, executive editor, Bloomberg Industry Group. “This debut class of honorees exemplifies not only excellence in their field but also leadership in their firms and practices.”
Carey, the Managing Member of Dykema’s Minneapolis office, is a nationally acclaimed trial attorney known for his acumen in automotive product liability cases. Over the past few years, he has successfully defended four consecutive high-stakes cases, reinforcing his reputation as one of the country’s top defense lawyers in the field.
In addition to his courtroom success, Carey co-leads Dykema’s electric and autonomous vehicles (E/AV) and advanced mobility team, advising clients on emerging automotive technologies. His leadership and contributions to the legal profession have earned him numerous accolades, including recognition by Chambers USA and The Legal 500 United States.
