Lance Boldrey, Lansing-based member of Dykema’s Gaming & Indian Law practice group, and leader of the firm’s emerging Cannabis Law practice team, was quoted in a Detroit Free Press account of a Native-American band’s lawsuit in U.S. District court to conclusively determine the legitimacy of its reservation in Michigan’s northwest Lower Peninsula.

Because the case is expected to last several years, Boldrey comments that the uncertainty over who will govern the communities within the disputed territory could depress property values, and that other changes in zoning and municipal ordinances could affect both tribal and non-tribal residents.
