Ann D. Fillingham, member in Dykema’s Business Services Department and a specialist in public and structured finance, will lead a panel discussion, “Anatomy of a Defaulted Deal,” at the 2012 Bond Attorneys’ Workshop, to be held in Chicago on October 24-26, 2012. The Workshop, a presentation of the National Association of Bond Lawyers, will attract more than 950 practitioners involved in all aspects of the municipal finance industry, and will address the year’s securities law developments, Internal Revenue Service enforcement activity and current tax reform proposals.

The panel discussion to be led by Fillingham will not only address the rising number of municipal deals that have fallen into default, but will focus on the ‘exponentially greater number” of bond obligors in severe financial distress that either cannot—or will not—declare bankruptcy. Among the topics to be covered:

  • The viability of bankruptcy
  • Potential sources of recovery (and liability)
  • Tax law implications
