Jason Grinnell, Los Angeles-based senior counsel in Dykema’s Real Estate practice group, was quoted at length in the Law360 article, “4 Ways Malls Are Reacting To The Ride-Hailing Economy.”

The article discusses a surprising consequence of the popularity of services such as Uber: As the need for vast, expensive parking lots disappears, and as municipal ordinances relax the ratio of spaces to stores, traditional mall architecture must be redesigned to accommodate more pick-up and drop-off traffic by ride-sharing shoppers. Grinnell cautions that the space being used for additional retail businesses or converted to  housing and offices may not successfully attract more tenants and generate more revenue.
