Janet A. Stiven, a Chicago-based business attorney and Dykema Member who assists clients in an outside general counsel role as well as with strategic business and technology transactions in the medical device, hospitality and automotive sectors, authored an article, “Why CFOs Should Oversee Company Cloud Initiatives,” that appears on the front page of the May 1, 2013 edition of CFO.com.

In the article, Stiven identifies a wide variety of risks that are associated the use of cloud services and mobile applications—many of which were designed with individual users, rather than corporate enterprises, in mind. She then outlines an action plan that Chief Financial Officers can employ to help ensure that their companies’ use of cloud-based services are consistent with existing policies (in such realms as financial, compliance, risk management, record retention and employment) and that risks are identified and properly managed.
