Wayne D. Roberts, Assistant Practice Group Leader of Dykema’s Tax Practice Group, and William C. Lentine, a member of the Firm’s Taxation and Estates Practice Group, are among the key presenters at the 26th Annual Tax Conference held by the Taxation Section of the State Bar of Michigan. This one-day event, which is offered through the Institute of Continuing Legal Education (ICLE), will be held in Plymouth, MI on Thursday, May 23, 2013. The event—consisting of four plenary sessions and nine breakout sessions—will provide practitioners a comprehensive review of the latest tax changes on the national front, as well as in-depth discussion of up-to-the-minute state and local tax developments.

In addition to his Dykema responsibilities, Roberts serves as Chair of the State Bar of Michigan Taxation Section. In this role, he will officially open the event, welcome the delegates and introduce the day’s speakers and events. Roberts will also participate in a panel discussion that addresses:

  • Legislative Updates;
  • Single Business Tax (SBT) and Michigan Business Tax (MBT) legacy issues; and,
  • Latest developments with the Michigan Corporate Income Tax (CIT)

Lentine, who recently joined the Taxation Section’s governing council, will also participate in a panel discussion, “State Tax Controversies: A View from Many Angles” that will focus on:

  • The appeals process (how a state tax dispute gets to court);
  • Procedural issues (taxpayer rights, pitfalls, alternatives); and,
  • How and why cases are resolved through settlement
