Two Dykema Attorneys Selected For Women In The Law 2009 Recognition

Dykema, a leading national law firm, announces that Patricia Cari Nowak, a member of the firm’s Litigation practice,and Janet Stiven, a member of the Corporate Finance practice, were named 2009 Illinois Leading Lawyers by the Leading Lawyers Network, a division of Law Bulletin Publishing Company. This distinction was earned by being among those lawyers who were most often recommended by their peers in a statewide survey. All of the female Illinois Leading Lawyers for 2009 were recognized in the "Women in Law 2009" publication which is a supplement to the Chicago Lawyer magazine. The Women in Law publication is designed to recognize and promote female leadership throughout the legal profession.

Ms. Nowak focuses her practice in the areas of medical malpractice defense and related health care litigation, and has experience in pharmaceutical and health care law. She practices in all state and federal courts in northern Illinois. A licensed nurse, Ms. Nowak’s active trial practice includes representing hospital and medical professionals in medical malpractice actions and hospitals in health care-related litigation. She also represents professionals before the Illinois Department of Professional Regulation. Her practice includes risk management, quality-of-care issues, and medical nursing staff policy, procedure and licensing issues.

Ms. Stiven regularly represents manufacturing, distribution, technology, and service companies in outside general counsel activities and strategic technology transactions. She counsels clients on matters including, formation and financing, mergers and acquisitions, joint ventures and strategic alliances, technology transfer; structuring and negotiating licenses, research and development collaborations, and protecting and enforcing intellectual property rights and trade secrets. Ms. Stiven has served as a leader of Dykema’s Commercial Finance Team and handles a variety of transactions on behalf of national and regional banks. She is also actively involved with Dykema’s Women’s Business Initiative which brings Dykema women attorneys and government professionals together with business women and leaders of diverse occupations, providing opportunities for networking and professional and personal growth.
