Dykema, a leading national law firm, announces that Richard G. Goetz, the Leader of the firm’s International Practice Group, became the Chair of the State Bar of Michigan’s International Law Section for the 2009-2010 Bar year at the Section’s recent Annual Meeting. The International Law Section provides education, information and analysis about issues of international legal concern through meetings, seminars, public service programs, and publication of a journal. Membership in the Section is open to all members of the State Bar of Michigan.

At Dykema, Mr. Goetz counsels clients engaged in a broad range of inbound and outbound international investment, distribution and sourcing activities. He also provides counsel on joint ventures and other complex business relationships, corporate, merger and acquisition, finance and international compliance matters. His knowledge of global business and investment issues, coupled with first-hand experience in dealing with the legal matters confronting companies doing business around the world, including Brazil, China, India, Mexico, and Russia, provides clients with a distinct advantage when establishing a new operation or production facility abroad or when companies from abroad seek to enter the U.S. market. In addition to the State Bar of Michigan, he is also a member of the American Bar Association and Program Director of the Council of Senior International Attorneys of The Conference Board, as well as being a member of the Advisory Boards of the Institute of International and Comparative Law, the Canada-United States Law Institute and the Detroit Regional Economic Partnership.

Goetz is the former Associate General Counsel-International at Ford Motor Company. His career with Ford Motor Company spanned more than three decades. In his most recent role as Associate General Counsel-International, he had primary responsibility for legal matters affecting Ford in Asia, Africa, Latin America, the Middle East, Russia, and Canada. He was a key participant in Ford’s entry into China, India, Korea and other Asian Countries, as well as into Eastern Europe. Mr. Goetz also served as the company’s director of legal affairs in Venezuela for 10 years. During his career with Ford, he represented the company on five continents, on a broad range of international legal matters, including joint ventures, acquisitions, dispositions, public offerings, litigation, corporate governance, distribution, licensing, international trade, government negotiations, regulatory matters and compliance programs.
