Mark Andrews Selected by American College of Bankruptcy

Cox Smith Matthews Incorporated (Cox Smith) today announced shareholder Mark Andrews was selected to be a Fellow in the American College of Bankruptcy. Membership in the College is by invitation only and he will become a member of the 22nd class of the College in ceremonies in Washington, D.C., in March 2012. Andrews joins George Tarpley and Deborah Williamson, Cox Smith shareholders who are also Fellows of the American College of Bankruptcy.

Andrews is one of 36 nominees from the United States and abroad being inducted in the 2012 class of College Fellows.  All are being honored and recognized for their professional excellence and exceptional contributions to the fields of bankruptcy and insolvency. Nominees are extended an invitation based on a record of achievement reflecting the highest standards of professionalism. The College was formed in 1989 and now has 789 Fellows, each selected by a Board of Regents from among recommendations of the Circuit Admissions Council in each federal judicial circuit and specially appointed Committees for Judicial and Foreign Fellows.  Only two other Texas based firms have three or more members in the College.

Andrews serves as head of Cox Smith’s Creditors' Rights, Corporate Restructuring and Bankruptcy department, which was recognized in the 2011-2012 U.S. News-Best Lawyers® ranking of the nation’s best law firms. He has more than 25 years of experience in the practice of bankruptcy law and was recently selected by his peers for inclusion in The Best Lawyers in America® 2012 for Bankruptcy and Creditor Debtor Rights/ Insolvency and Reorganization Law and was named to the Texas Super Lawyers list as one of the top attorneys in Texas (Bankruptcy & Creditor/Debtor Rights) for 2011. He has experience as lenders’ counsel in complex chapter 11 cases, and has broad and deep knowledge representing lenders, business debtors and committees. Recently Mark has represented both debtors and creditors in connection with the energy industry. He has also represented lenders in negotiations and in bankruptcy proceedings involving complex preference and fraudulent transfer litigation, and has represented hospitals in bankruptcy.
