Dykema, a leading national law firm, today announced the addition of Andrew P. Scott to its Real Estate practice group as a member in the firm’s Chicago office.

Scott focuses his practice on land use and zoning issues, governmental entitlements and economic development incentives, including tax increment financing, tax sharing and corporate tax credits. He also counsels clients on state and local ethics matters, including lobbyist registration and reporting, campaign finance and pay-to-play bans.

"Andrew is a premier real estate attorney in Chicago and brings specialized experience in some key niche areas," said Rex Schlaybaugh, Dykema’s Chairman and Chief Executive Officer. "He embraces the opportunity Dykema’s value and service platform, mix of sophisticated national practices and geographic footprint can offer his practice and his clients. We welcome him to our team."

Scott has represented multinational companies, including United Airlines, Ford Motor Company, BP America, Boeing Company and USG Corporation on land use matters and multi-jurisdictional economic incentive packages with respect to corporate headquarters and new manufacturing facilities sitings. Scott also represents local developers and businesses on land use and entitlement matters around the state and the region.

"Our developer and property owner clients who have development projects, investments and other interests in and around Chicago will benefit from Andrew’s knowledge of land use and zoning issues and his range of experience with highly complex commercial and industrial real estate projects," said Cameron Piggott, leader of Dykema’s Real Estate practice group. "His unique experience and dedication to his clients will be significant assets to his colleagues and our clients."

Scott joins Dykema from DLA Piper where he was a partner in the Real Estate practice. Prior to 2002, he practiced law at Altheimer & Gray. Earlier in his career, Scott was assistant counsel to the Hon. Michael J. Madigan, Speaker of the House, Illinois House of Representatives, where he acted as staff attorney for the Electricity Deregulation, Public Utilities, and Environment and Energy Committees. In this role, he reviewed and drafted legislation, analyzed bills, and provided detailed memoranda on legislative matters of special interest to House leadership.

Scott’s legal experience also includes work with the Capital Litigation Division of the Illinois Appellate Defender’s Office, the Illinois Commerce Commission, and a clerkship with the Hon. W. Thomas Rosemond, Jr.

He received a J.D., with honors, from the Chicago-Kent College of Law and a B.A. from Tufts University.
