Dykema, a leading national law firm, has been selected by the Legal Aid and Defender Association, Inc. (LADA) as the winner of the Law Firm of the Year Pro Bono Award. The firm was honored at the 2015-2016 Laddy Awards, which presented Thursday, October 13, 2016, in the Theodore Levin United States Courthouse in Detroit.

Each year, LADA holds the Laddy Awards to honor attorneys, judges and friends who helped LADA extend services to men, women, children and families in need of legal aid in Michigan’s Wayne, Oakland and Macomb counties, including the city of Detroit. Dykema was chosen as Law Firm of the Year for its exceptional pro bono work in conjunction with LADA.

Working in conjunction with the LADA, Dykema has helped lead several pro bono initiatives,  including taking the lead in a project with the Wayne County Circuit Court to enhance services to victims of domestic violence who were seeking Personal Protection Orders (PPO). Dykema pro bono attorneys helped survivors prepare their petition for a PPO insuring that the legally necessary facts showing domestic violence are included in the petitioners’ affidavits, helping to increase the number of PPOs granted. Dykema pro bono attorneys also represent domestic violence survivors defending motions to terminate a PPO.
