Dykema Attorneys Speak At Key Health Law Conferences, And Serve On Key Health Law Professional And Trade Associations

DETROIT - As the health care sector continues to wrestle with new developments in 2011, Dykema attorneys have been frequent speakers on topics of interest to the industry.

In May, three Dykema members, presented at the Aging Services of Michigan 43rd Annual Conference & Trade Show in Grand Rapids, Michigan. Phyllis Adams, Dykema’s Health Care Practice Group Leader, addressed Medicare provider enrollment and reporting issues under the CMS 855 form. Former Attorney General, Mike Cox, now resident in Dykema’s Litigation Department, focused on trends for fraud and abuse enforcement at the state and federal level. Additionally, Joanne Lax presented a session on the applicability of clinical ethics committees in post acute providers (e.g., nursing homes, home health agencies, etc.). Ms. Lax also will speak at the annual meeting of the American Health Lawyers Association (“AHLA”) in Boston later this month, where she will discuss cutting edge regulatory issues for long-term care organizations. The AHLA is the nation’s largest organization dedicated to legal issues in the health industry.

Ms. Lax, resident in the firm’s Bloomfield Hills office, also was recently appointed to serve a three year term on the Legal Committee for LeadingAge, the national trade association for nonprofit providers of aging services. Additionally, she was recently re-appointed as Vice Chair of the Long-Term Care, Senior Housing, In-Home Care and Rehabilitation Practice Group for AHLA.
