Dykema’s Dallas Office Continues Growth with Addition of Kyle A. Owens and John C. Sokatch

Dykema, a leading national law firm, today announced the addition of Kyle A. Owens and John C. Sokatch as senior counsel in the firm’s growing Dallas office, which has now added nine attorneys in the past five months. The firm’s rate of growth in North Texas has been so rapid in recent months that it has had to arrange for additional space in the Comerica Bank Tower, where the office is located.

Given his in-house background at Capital One, he also brings real world business experience that will enable him to understand our financial services clients’ needs. John is a true Texas trial lawyer who is at home in front of a jury, and his addition further deepens our bench strength in significant areas commercial litigation important to our client base.”

Owens joins Dykema’s Financial Industry Group after serving as Associate General Counsel for Capital One Financial Corporation. He was lead business counsel and a member of the company’s leadership teams for its Home Equity and Mortgage Originations lines of business. Prior to Capital One, he practiced complex commercial litigation and arbitration in the Dallas office of Hunton & Williams for nearly a decade. Owens focuses his practice on business and consumer-financial litigation and arbitration, and consumer-financial-regulatory guidance. He has extensive experience working with clients in the Financial Services industry.

Owens received a J.D. from Harvard Law School, and a B.A., summa cum laude, in Government & International Studies from the University of Notre Dame. He also serves on the Board of Directors of the Notre Dame Law Association and the Board of Management of the White Rock YMCA.

Sokatch joins Dykema’s Commercial Litigation Group after practicing as a partner at a top-rated litigation boutique in Dallas. His practice focuses on complex commercial litigation matters in state and federal court, as well as arbitration proceedings, including: limited liability company and partnership disputes; commercial real estate/landlord-tenant litigation; trade secret misappropriation; breach of contract, commercial sale of goods (UCC); breach of fiduciary duties (general partner, LLC manager, and financial planner disputes); Federal, state, and common-law trademark disputes; non-compete, non-solicitation, and non-disclosure agreements; and physician credentialing disputes. Sokatch also serves as a member of the State Bar of Texas Trade Secrets Committee, where he recently assisted in preparing the pattern jury charge for the Defend Trade Secrets Act.

Sokatch received a J.D. from the Southern Methodist University, Dedman School of Law, and a B.A., cum laude, in Economics from the University of Oklahoma.
