Sherrie Farrell Receives 2016 D. Augustus Straker Bar Association Trailblazer Award

Dykema, a leading national law firm, announced today that Sherrie Farrell, Office Managing Member of the firm’s Detroit office, received the 2016 D. Augustus Straker Bar Association Trailblazer Award. Sherrie, along with two other recipients, received the award at the Bar Association’s 23rd Annual Trailblazers Awards Dinner on June 9, at the Westin Hotel in Southfield, Mich.

The D. Augustus Straker Bar Association is a proactive organization of diverse attorneys with a mission of promoting legal practice opportunities for minorities and women and to facilitate equal justice for all citizens in Oakland County, Michigan. The Trailblazers Awards Dinner  honors outstanding individuals who are trailblazers in the legal community and also awards scholarships to law students dedicated to public service in Michigan.

Farrell, who also leads Dykema’s Cybersecurity practice and serves as Chair of the firm’s Diversity and Inclusion Committee, advises clients on all aspects of business disputes, including a broad range of complex litigation matters. She has represented manufacturers, closely-held corporations, auto suppliers and construction companies in both litigated and non-litigated matters. Her practice also includes the defense of consumer financial services matters and she has served as the national discovery counsel for a Fortune 25 corporation.

She is also an extremely active member of the community, serving as a board member for the Legal Aid and Defender Association, Inc., Black Family Development, Inc., Gift of Life-Michigan, and the Detroit Metropolitan Bar Association. Farrell is also the past president of the Wolverine Bar Association, and is involved with the Citizen’s Research Council, as well as several other organizations.

Farrell earned a J.D., cum laude, from the Detroit College of Law and a B.A. from Wayne State University.
