John Black focuses his practice on product liability, catastrophic injury/wrongful death, and commercial litigation. He defends Fortune 500 manufacturers and other companies in high-exposure automotive crashworthiness, premises liability, personal injury, and MDL/class action litigation throughout the United States. He has experience in all phases of litigation both in and out of the courtroom, including trial, and has drafted appellate briefs in both state and federal courts. He has also assisted clients with government investigations involving NHTSA, the CPSC, and Transport Canada.

In addition to his work across the U.S., John maintains an active practice in Canada and has appeared as counsel of record in six provinces. As a dual-citizen who has lived and practiced in both countries, John offers clients a unique perspective, particularly those with more limited litigation experience north or south of the border.

Prior to joining Dykema, John practiced at a Canadian-based international law firm. He earned his juris doctor at the University of Western Ontario, and his bachelor's degree at the University of Michigan where he was a member of the varsity track and cross-country teams.
