John Black defends corporate clients in product liability, catastrophic injury/wrongful death, and commercial litigation in the automotive, insurance, and consumer product industries. He has experience in all phases of litigation both in and out of the courtroom, including trial, and has drafted appellate briefs at both the state and federal level. He has also been a part of case teams handling class action and MDL litigation, and matters involving NHTSA, the CPSC, and Transport Canada.

In addition to his work across the U.S., John maintains an active practice in Canada as a licensed barrister and solicitor in Ontario. As a dual-citizen who has lived and worked in both countries, John offers clients a unique perspective, particularly those with more limited litigation experience north or south of the border.

Prior to joining Dykema, John worked at one of Canada's largest national law firms and in the legal department of a global automotive supplier. He received his juris doctor from the University of Western Ontario where he served as executive editor of the Canada-United States Law Journal, and his bachelor's degree at the University of Michigan where he was a member of the varsity track and cross-country teams.
