Joseph H. Hickey

Member

Over the last two decades, Joe Hickey has partnered with major financial institutions facing litigation and potential liability based on their consumer lending and credit practices.

Because of his work for these institutions on a national basis (managing large litigation portfolios), few litigators have the industry knowledge and experience that Joe brings to the table. His understanding of the law and pragmatic approach to dispute resolution have made him and his team trusted advisors and successful advocates on a wide range of matters.

Joe brings his courtroom talents on behalf of banks and other lenders in mortgage and consumer lending claims, including class actions involving federal lending regulations as well as state-specific rules governing credit practices. He also handles disputes related to credit card and mortgage products, escrow and insurance proceeds, and note and collateral enforcement.

Joe is well known for his keen eye for detail, and he often spots larger issues and trends implicated by the cases referred by his clients.

Should a risk or concern arise, Joe and his team engage in root cause analysis of the facts to advise clients on how to avoid further risk. His personal approach, candid counsel, transparency, and frank assessment of facts help his clients make informed business decisions.

Joe’s personal commitment and ownership give his clients the confidence to know he has their backs at all times.

While successful in the courtroom and other forums (such as arbitration), Joe is well aware that favorable resolutions can often be found during the early stages of a matter. As such, he endeavors to develop creative solutions that spare clients the costs, disruption, and uncertainty of protracted litigation.

A productive resolution of a consumer lending claim is one that not only secures a positive outcome in the case but also spurs adjustments to practices or policies that can prevent similar claims from arising in the future.
